Celebrate Vitamin C!

Did you know that National Vitamin C Day is April 4th? Dermatologists highly recommend adding vitamin C to your daily skincare regimen. Not only can vitamin C help prevent dark pigmentation, but it also protects collagen. That’s one powerful ingredient! One way to implement vitamin C in your daily routine is by using skin antioxidants. Antioxidants can help prevent environmental damage to cells caused by free radicals, such as UVA/UVB rays and ozone pollution. Using antioxidants are a great way to help your skin repair itself from visible and aging damage.

There are several options when it comes to vitamin C. Dr. Catherine Papasakelariou recommends trying these from Skinceuticals: CE Ferulic, Phloretin CF, and Silymarin CF.

Skinceuticals CE Ferulic is a serum combination antioxidant of 15% pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), 1% vitamin E (alpha tocopherol), and 0.5% ferulic acid that provides protection from environmental and aging damage. It greatly improves signs of aging such as wrinkles, lines, and loss of firmness. It’s ideal for skin types that are normal, dry, and sensitive.

Skinceuticals Phloretin CF is a serum combination antioxidant of 2% phloretin, 10% pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), and 0.5% ferulic acid that improves appearance of discoloration, fine lines, and skin tone overall. It’s ideal for normal, oily, and combination skin types.

Skinceuticals Silymarin CF is a serum high potency combination antioxidant with 0.5% silymarin, 15% vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), and 0.5% ferulic acid that specifically helps oily and blemish prone skin from environmental damage. It helps reduce oiliness, refine skin texture, and improves skin clarity. It’s ideal for oily and combination skin types.

Dr. Papasakelariou recommends applying these in the morning after cleansing and before sunscreen. As with any skin care, consistent use is the best way to maximize the benefits. For more information, please contact our Houston Premier Dermatology.
