Dealing with the Dreaded Winter Dry Skin

Featured Image

Who does not love winter in Houston? Crisp, cool air and sunny skies to chase away the summer humidity. Although lovely outside, the cold can wreak havoc on our skin. Dry skin is very common and typically not serious, particularly in the winter months. It can be even tougher now, with the necessary frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizers. Some signs of dry skin include tightness, itching flaking, redness, and ashy skin.   Most dry skin is temporary and can benefit from over-the-counter emollients.  On occasion, dry skin may be so severe that the use of prescription topical steroids may be necessary.

Some of the products I recommend for hands and body are Aveeno eczema therapy and Vaseline. Further, it is not just our bodies that dry out, our faces are affected as well.  Due to this, it is important to assure we use the correct facial moisturizer. I recommend SkinCeuticals triple lipid or Revision DEJ face cream.  Both have anti-aging properties and work well for dry winter skin.
